Following feedback from members of the community, Niantic has announced they will be reverting the changes made to Pokestop and Gym Interaction distances in Pokemon GO made earlier this month.
To recap, at the beginning of the month Niantic began to roll out updates to remove many of the special features they added to Pokemon GO in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the major features removed was the increased Pokestop and Gym interaction distance, which was met with criticism from many members of the community who felt these features were helpful, especially since the pandemic has yet to be fully resolved.
Now, Niantic has confirmed on Twitter that they will no longer be going ahead with reducing Pokestop and Gym interaction distance, and will set 80 meters as the default interaction distance for Pokestops and Gyms around the world. Judging form the phrasing of the announcement, it seems this decision was made as a result of the task force they assembled to address concerns following the backlash.
