Nintendo has announced the end date for their service allowing players to link their Nintendo accounts to their old Nintendo Network IDs.
As detailed on Twitter and accompanying support article, players will no longer be able to link their Nintendo Network IDs to a Nintendo Account after March 27th 2024. The main purpose of this service is to allow players to carry over any of their remaining 3DS and WiiU eshop credits to their Nintendo Account, as well as tie any purchases they made to their Nintendo Account email address. You can find out how to do this via the support website link here.
The closure of this service is likely to phase out the usage of Nintendo Network ID accounts, as well as part of the broader winding down of support for the 3DS and WiiU game consoles. The eshops for both these legacy platforms have stopped accepting funds, and will be closing down for good starting March 27th 2023.
