Earlier this week, Nintendo published its latest financial results briefing, revealing that the Switch has reached 141.32 million units sold worldwide.
The briefing also include the amount of units Nintendo expects to sell in the next fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. Nintendo estimates they will be able to sell 13.5 million units, which is a fair bit lower than the previous year’s projections. This is not too unexpected given that the Switch is in the tail end of its life cycle, with its successor poised to take over.
What is interesting to note however is that if Nintendo’s estimates are accurate, the Switch would have reached 154.82 million units sold worldwide. This figure would surpass Nintendo’s current highest selling console the Nintendo DS, reached 154.02 million units in lifetime sales. This would also place the Switch very close to surpassing the sales of the Playstation 2, which ended its run at 155 million units sold and is the current highest selling console of all time.
Of course, whether Nintendo will be able to meet this lofty goal remains to be seen. We will be sure to report back with more updates as they come.
