A new patent from Nintendo has reportedly surfaced online.
Reported by Nintendo Patents Watch, this patent is for a Switch 2 dock that is compatible with both the Switch 2 and the original Switch console. It was filed in China, and details how this potential dock will be able to distinguish which of the consoles is connected and behave accordingly:
With NS2 console:
• USB 3 data standard
• Higher res video out
• Higher fan RPMWith NS1 console:
• USB 2 data standard
• Lower res video out
• Lower fan RPM
Nintendo Patents Watch says that the patent was filed in January 2025, and suggests that it may have been an R&D project or a rejected concept. Should Nintendo release such a product however, it could be a good option for households which still frequently use both iterations of the console.
