Nintendo Of America Contract Workers Share Complaints Of Mistreatment By The Company

Earlier this week, we reported that Nintendo of America and global hiring firm Aston Carter were hit with an official complaint from a former contract worker via NLRB, alleging mistreatment by the companies regarding their right to unionize and other matters.

Although Nintendo later released a statement claiming they were unaware of the mistreatment, video game publication Kotaku has now published a lengthy article spotlighting even more claims of mistreatment from other contract workers who worked with Nintendo. These complaints mainly have to do with Nintendo’s treatment of part-time or contract staff in particular, and include the following:

  • Poor pay and lack of benefits such as health insurance.
  • Not receiving equal treatment as full-time staff, despite contributing an equal amount of work or working with Nintendo an equal amount of time.
  • Making it difficult to transition from a part-time to full-time position at Nintendo.
  • Receiving reprimands for airing grievances and concerns during open meetings, one of which may have led to the incident discussed in the NLRB complaint.
  • Difficulties communicating grievances to Nintendo higher-ups, leading to misunderstanding and mishandling of situations.

At the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to address these new complaints highlighted. If you’re interested in reading the full accounts for yourself, you can read them on Kotaku here.
