Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa Says Recent Switch Successor Rumors Are Inaccurate

For the past few months, rumors have been swirling about a successor to the Nintendo Switch, which was claimed to be coming as soon as next year.

During the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly addressed these rumors. According to an article from Japanese publication Mainichi, Furukawa not only did not comment on the existence of the Switch successor, but stated that the rumors were “inaccurate”. Specifically, he said that the rumors about the Switch Successor being shown off to “specific software makers in 2022“, as well as the rumor that they had demoed the system at a “overseas event in Summer 2023“, were “untrue”.

In addition, Furukawa also reportedly took the time to address the patent for the dual screen system that surfaced last month. Furukawa stated that it was made with the “understanding that it would be made public”, and that it might not necessarily be used for an actual product.

If Mainichi’s report is accurate, Furukara’s comments would serve as strong evidence that the Switch’s successor is unlikely to arrive when the rumors suggested it would, although he would not be inclined to give direct confirmation one way or the other. We will be sure to report back with the official English translation for the Q&A once it is released.
