Amidst swirling rumors of an impending successor, the Switch recently crossed some impressive sales milestones, suggesting that demand is still high for Nintendo’s original hybrid console.
However, these achievements seem unlikely to delay the console’s eventual retirement. During Nintendo’s latest investor Q&A, the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa responded to a question asking if the Switch’s performance will affect the launch of new hardware. While he declined to give specifics, he did confirm that their “other businesses” would not affect their plans for new hardware, as it is something Nintendo plans carefully in advance.

Concerning new hardware, our company is constantly researching and devloping new hardware and software, so I’m not able to comment any further. Also, as I mentioned before in the past, recently, there have been many articles posted by media on the internet that may appear to be official information from our company. We would like our investors to take a look at information that is published on our official website and social media channels and make the appropriate decision. Furthermore, concerning the preparation of new hardware which takes a long time, it is something that we want to properly plan and proceed with, thus our other businesses (Nintendo Switch, mobile, etc) do not affect our plans for new hardware.
