Nintendo has released a statement regarding the recent allegations of workplace misconduct that the company received earlier this week.
The allegations in question were reported by gaming publication Kotaku, which detailed accounts from female contractors who experienced sexual harassment while working for Nintendo Of America (NOA) as game testers. Two of managers who work or previously worked for NOA were identified as the perpetrators, with the internal workplace culture likened to that of a “frat house”, echoing similar statements said about Activision Blizzard, which is also embroiled in a sexual harassment controversy.
Shortly after Kotaku’s report was published, NOA President Doug Bowser reportedly released an internal memo to the company’s employees stating that they are “actively investigating” the recent claims of “inappropriate conduct”, presumably referring to Kotaku’s sexual harassment report. You can read what Bowser had to say below, once again via Kotaku:
“We have strict policies designed to protect our employees and associates from inappropriate conduct and expect full compliance with these policies by all who work for or with us. We have and will always investigate any allegations we become aware of, and we are actively investigating these most recent claims.”
“Please remember that our HR teams are here to support you, If you experience, have experienced, witness, or have witnessed anything concerning such behavior that is contrary to our Standards of Conduct, employee handbook, or Company Values, please immediately contact your HR Business Partner.”
