Earlier this year, Nintendo contacted the developers behind the Switch emulator Ryujinx, pressuring them to cease working on the project and take all downloads offline.
According to a listing from the Whois database, Nintendo also appears to have acquired the website domain for Ryujinx. Whois’ listing shows that as of November 7th 2024, the domain ryujinx.org is now owned by Nintendo of America Inc. At the time of this writing however, this change in ownership has not been mentioned by either Nintendo nor the developers of Ryujinx.
It is believed that Nintendo purchased this domain name has a pre-emptive measure against third-parties who might wish to revive Ryujinx, as the emulator’s source code is still floating around online. Even so, it seems unlikely that this will be enough to stamp out new variants of the emulator completely. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
