Interesting news – it seems that both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch share the same firmware versions.
In a video posted on the Nintendo Today! app, a screen capture shows that the Switch 2 in the video is on firmware version 20.1.0. This version is slightly ahead of the Switch’s 20.0.1 version released on May 1, 2025.
Both the Switch 2 and Switch are the first Nintendo platforms to have operating systems that share the same firmware versions.
While this may seem unusual for a new game console, it’s not unusual for smartphones and PCs – there could be many new and different models, as well as features exclusive to certain smartphones, but they can all share the same firmware.
