During Nintendo’s latest fiscal briefing and Q&A session, an investor asked Nintendo global CEO Shuntaro Furukawa whether it would be possible to enable cross-play for titles such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., similar to how Fortnite Battle Royale is on multiple platforms.
Furukawa said it was perfectly fine if other publishers want to release their games on multiple platforms, but Nintendo will never ever do that. The moment Nintendo goes third party for console games, it’s game over for them.
If publishers want to release cross-platform titles, and doing so would make consumers happy, then as long as it is technically feasible, we would want to support them. That said, we have absolutely no plans to offer any Nintendo games as cross-platform titles at this time.
