Recently, it has been discovered by Twitter user @MrTalida some old promotional art from the company DiC who created the old Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda cartoon shows!
The art features a very different look for the characters from the show with much more different designs.

These original designs seem to be more reminiscent of the original NES games these characters are based on so it is very nice to see those designs were considered at one point!
