As many of you may know, Pokemon cards have become a lucrative commodity in recent years, with cards being horded and sold for up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, some nefarious actors have begun producing counterfeit Pokemon cards in an attempt to cash in on the craze. According to a report from Yicai Global, a massive lot of counterfeit Pokemon cards was recently seized in Shanghai, consisting of twenty boxes of fakes weighing over 7.6 tons (15,2000 lbs). The shipment was reportedly headed for Europe, and is one of the largest hauls of fake goods to be discovered in recent years.
You can check out a news clip showing off the goods below:
Although fake Pokemon cards are nothing new to the series, it seems likely that the recent surge of interest will lead to more and more counterfeit cards being produced to capitalize on the trend.
