Today we have some very sad news about the Astral Chain Collector’s Edition in Japan.
During an official NicoNico livestream, PlatinumGames game designer Takahisa Taura plead viewers to pre-order the Astral Chain Collector’s Edition. The exact comments he made (translated by NintendoSoup) are as follows:
“As there’s still stock of the Astral Chain Collector’s Edition remaining, please, pre-order it.”
Taura’s comments were no surprise to Japanese gamers. Although Astral Chain is scheduled to launch later this week, pre-order sales for the Collector’s Edition are so lackluster that there’s still plenty of stock left at retailers across Japan, making it relatively easy to pre-order. We also previously reported a large quantity was produced in Japan. This is unlike the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Fodlan Collection in Japan, which sold out weeks before launch.
Japanese gamers said they wouldn’t buy the Collector’s Edition as the game is a brand new IP they are “not familiar with” and they wouldn’t pay almost 10,000 yen for its contents. Some even questioned why Nintendo and PlatinumGames even produced a Collector’s Edition for Astral Chain.
