As you may know, Pokemon is not just a series of highly successfully videogames, but also one of the largest multimedia franchises in the world, including the trading cards, anime, clothing, and of course, toys.
This year, the overwhelming presence of the Pokemon brand has won it License Of The Year at the 2022 Toy Of The Year Awards, which recognizes the top toys, games and children’s properties for their achievements, voted on by a mix of public and industry votes. The Pokemon Company credited this achievement at least in part to the numerous campaigns and cross-promotions they held for the series’ 25th Anniversary, including tie-ins with Levi’s, Converse, McDonald’s, General Mills, OREO, and others.
Here’s what The Pokemon Company’s director of licensing Amy Sachtleben had to say about the award:
“At The Pokémon Company International, we aim to deliver the joy of Pokémon to fans around the world through our products, and being recognized as the License of the Year at the 2022 Toy of the Year Awards is a wonderful way to celebrate the culmination of a landmark 25th anniversary year for the brand and its partners, we look forward to giving broad global audiences more ways to engage with the property through exciting collaborations and merchandise.”
