BBC reports that anonymous advertisements for Pokemon GO events have been used to secretly promote public protests against the government.
These mass demonstrations are the response to a currently suspended extradition bill started in Hong Kong a few months ago.
Protestors are demanding amnesty for anyone arrested during the demonstrations and greater choice in future elections held in the semi-autonomous city. But announcing or promoting these demonstrations have lead to arrests which mean that people are finding new ways of staging them.
These include “play(ing)” Pokemon Go, taking part in “Bible reading groups” or “history tours” according to one protestor.
