Pokemon GO Sold To Scopely As Part Of 3.5 Billion Dollar Deal

Following an earlier report, Niantic has confirmed that Pokemon GO is being sold to Monopoly GO creator Scopely.

More specifically, the 3.5 billion dollar sale is for Niantic’s entire game business, which includes Pokemon GO along with Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now and others. It was confirmed in a message from Ed Wu, a veteran developer and Niantic’s senior vice president of Pokemon GO. Scopely also put out a lengthy blog post reassuring players that the change will be positive for their experiences, which you can view here.

Speaking to media outlets, Scopely’s chief revenue officer  Tim O’Brien had this to say about the Pokemon GO acquisition:

“Few games in the world have delivered the scale and longevity of Pokémon Go, which reached over 100 million players just last year. The experience also stands apart for its unique ability to foster in-person connections, with Pokémon Go live events attracting millions of attendees. After spending time with the Niantic team, it quickly became clear that this organisation shares our inclination to create industry-leading outcomes and exceptional player experiences. We look forward to a bright future ahead.”
