Pokemon Legends Z-A Demo Footage And Details Shared

Following its debut at the Pokemon World Championships 2025, attendees and news outlets are sharing their videos and impressions of the Pokemon Legends Z-A demo.

The demo allows players to experience the new real-time battle system and a bit of city exploration, including fights with trainers in the ZA Royale, chasing Zygarde through the city, and fighting a Rogue Mega Absol with a Mega Lucario. It reveals a few interesting details about the game as follows:

General Info

  • There is an in-game Mission List to track progress on various tasks and quests.
  • There are at least 6 Wild Zones in the City, with more presumably unlocking over time
    • Each Wild Zone shows a preview of all the Pokemon that can be found there. After they have all been caught, players will receive a Crown marking for the zone.
  • Pokemon Centers act as shops, similar to most modern Pokemon titles.
  • Players describe the game as running much better compared to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, at least on Switch 2.

Control Scheme

Battle System

  • Moves use a cooldown system instead of PP. Cooldown time is measured in seconds, and determines how long the player must wait before they can use the move again.
    • Items are also on a similar cooldown system.
  • Held Items and Natures are present in the game, but Abilities are not.
  • Positioning and Timing appear to be very important, as different moves have different cooldowns, charging time, range, and so forth.
  • Mega Evolution is activated by collecting Mega Energy dropped by Pokemon in battle. Players charge up their Mega Gauge by collecting this energy, allowing Mega Evolution capable Pokemon to Mega Evolve. Mega Evolved Pokemon do more damage, but the transformation only lasts for a limited period.
  • In battles, Mega Pokemon will target the trainer, meaning it is possible to faint after being attacked directly.
  • Players describe battles as being more challenging compared to other Pokemon games.
