Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak, the owners of the Pokemon brand, have registered new trademarks related to Pokemon Masters in Japan.
The trademark applications were for the English term “Pokemon Masters” as well as the Japanese abbreviation “ポケマス” (Pokemas). Interestingly, the trademarks not only apply to “downloadable videogame/smartphone program” but also to game cards, plush dolls and special events.
The wider scope of the trademarks suggests that Nintendo and The Pokemon Company may have other plans for Pokemon Masters apart from the mobile game itself, although we would have to wait for official details to be sure.
Pokemon Masters is scheduled to launch sometime in 2019 for mobile devices.
