It appears that Nintendo is jumping on the Game-Key Card bandwagon on Nintendo Switch 2 with Pokemon Pokopia.
The company released a trailer introducing Game-Key Cards on Nintendo Switch 2 today, with Pokemon Pokopia heavily featured as a title that uses one. Pokemon Pokopia’s official Japanese website, as well as the official Nintendo page for Game-Key Cards in Japan have confirmed that the game will be released in the Game-Key Card format.
While some had previously suggested that Game-Key Cards were being used by publishers of games that retail for less than USD50, as well as games that exceed 64GB (the maximum capacity of a Nintendo Switch 2 Game Card), Pokemon Pokopia doesn’t fit the bill, as it will retail for USD69.99 and it only requires a 10GB download. This suggests that the cost savings from Game-Key Cards are too tempting to resist even for Nintendo themselves.
