Last year, Nintendo confirmed that cozy life sim Pokemon Pokopia would be the first first-party Nintendo game to release on a Game-Key Card, a move which attracted criticism from fans as they are viewed as not being true physical releases due to not containing the game data on the cart.
Despite these criticisms, the physical release for Pokemon Pokopia is seemingly selling extremely well, at least in the west. As reported by Nintendeal, the physical release for the game is listed as sold out on many online retailers, with Amazon being the final holdout at the time of this writing.
Pokemon Pokopia‘s success can likely be attributed to the brand power of Pokemon, as well as the overall quality of the game itself. Following its release last week, Pokemon Pokopia became one of the highest rated Pokemon games of all time on review aggregator Metacritic, and is one of the highest rated games release in 2026 so far alongside Resident Evil Requiem and Mewgenics.
One wonders if this will inspire Nintendo to release more of their first-party titles on Game-Key Cards, although they have yet to reveal any such plans for now.
