Pokemon Legends Arceus shook up the traditional Pokemon game formula in many different ways, one of which was allowing players to catch Pokemon without having to battle them.
While many fans found this new method of catching Pokemon refreshing and fun, it seems that the series will likely be returning to the traditional method of forcing players to battle wild Pokemon before capturing them. This theory comes via the official website for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, which seemingly made a point to state that players will be able to “experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them”.
Although this statement does not necessarily confirm outright that the catching mechanics from Pokemon Legends Arceus will not be returning for Scarlet/Violet, many fans have already began voicing their displeasure about this potential move on social media. Many fans believe that the new catching mechanics were a step in the right direction for the series, and feel that removing it completely will be a major step backward.
That said, without more extensive footage or details about the new titles, it is difficult to say for certain that none of Pokemon Legends Arceus‘ more beloved changes to the formula will be ported over to Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
