Longtime Pokemon fans are likely familiar with the game’s serial code distribution method, which allowed players to redeem mystery gifts by entering a code into their games.
Previously, serial codes were often region-locked such that they could only be redeemed in games of a matching region. For example, a Japanese serial code would only work on a Japanese Pokemon cartridge, and not be redeemable on an American or other region cartridge.
However, it has been confirmed that the Japanese codes for Pokemon Sword And Shield are now region free. This means that serial codes will work with games from any region, as the did in Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. For example, the Japanese Secret Club Code for the Pokemon Quest T-Shirt can be redeemed even in an American or European copy of Pokemon Sword and Shield.
This finding was documented by Pokemon fansite Serebii, as seen below:
With this in mind, it is likely that future Pokemon Sword And Shield serial code events will be accessible to players of every region, allowing them to redeem rewards they may not have been able to before.
