Random: Pokemon GO Now Has More Available Pokemon Than Any Mainline Pokemon Game
Earlier this week, Niantic released a new update for Pokemon GO, adding a few creatures from Pokemon Scarlet And Violet‘s Paldea Region to the mobile title.
With the new additions, the total number of available Pokemon in Pokemon GO has been brought up to 814 (thanks Eurogamer). As of this writing, this is number is larger than the amount of Pokemon available in any mainline Pokemon game. For reference, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which previously held the record, boasted a total of 809 available Pokemon, inclusive of those available via transfers from other games.
Astute Pokemon fans may notice that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were the last Pokemon games where every single Pokemon released was available in the game data. Following these titles, The Pokemon Company and Game Freak made the decision to to only include a limited selection of past Pokemon in the games moving forward, starting with Pokemon Sword And Shield. A number of reasons for this change were given, but it mostly boils down to the rising number of Pokemon increasingly limiting game development.
Unless The Pokemon Company’s stance changes in the future, it’s probably safe to say that Pokemon GO will forever feature more Pokemon than any mainline Pokemon game released moving forward. Even then, Pokemon GO will still likely never catch up to feature every Pokemon available in the franchise at any one time, being still over 200 creatures behind as of this writing.
