As we’ve reported previously, the official BoxBoy Twitter profile is often home to some bizarre posts – which re-imagine the game’s hero Qbby as other objects or shapes. We’ve already seen Qbby crossing over with Kirby to become a sphere or becoming an Easter Egg in the past, but things are only getting weirder this time.
Recently, the profile tweeted out an cute image of Qbby as an apple tree, to commemorate Japan’s ‘Tree Day‘ (#木の日) today. If you’re out of the loop, many Japanese citizens celebrate ‘Tree Day’ on October 8 – since the Japanese characters for Eight (八) and October (十) can visually combine into the character for ‘tree’ (木).
Qbby didn’t just become any ordinary apple tree, however. In fact, the BoxBoy developers at HAL Laboratory mention that he looks kind of familiar…
“Today is Tree Day. I made Qbby into a tree. (´-`) (Feels like I’ve seen it somewhere before…)”
