While the Switch and Switch Lite have been doing swimmingly in Japan, it looks like Nintendo’s rival Sony doesn’t intend to back off anytime soon.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has apparently secured trademarks for the “PS6,” PS7,” “PS8,” “PS9,” and “PS10” in Japan. Of course, this is probably some form of security for future PlayStation console names – but it’s definitely a little unexpected to see the console company thinking so many generations ahead!
In any case, it looks like Nintendo and Sony will most likely continue to butt heads within the Japanese gaming market for decades to come. With Switch sales numbers having overtaken the PS4 in Japan some months back – we can only imagine that the competition will get more intense from here on out.
