Reason Why Dragon Quest XI Switch Is Launching So Much Later Than Its 3DS & PS4 Counterparts

Dragon Quest XI is already out of the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 for months already but the Switch version of the game is still hard at work and not likely to even see light in 2018. So what is exactly happening around in Square Enix’s offices.

Explaining to GameSpot, Square Enix’s producer Hokuto Okamoto said that this is due to the problem with Unreal Engine and its Switch support issues. Okamoto even stressed that they actually wanted the game out on the Switch around the time it was launched for the PlayStation 4 had they not hit such a road bump.

“It’s true that the Nintendo Switch version is under development at this moment in time. Specifically with regards to the development, this game was developed on the Unreal Engine, but the version for Unreal Engine needs to be updated, I suppose, in order to support Switch. In that sense, the development is still expected to take a very long time. It’s still a long ways out.

Of course, we did consider releasing PS4 and a Switch version around the same time if that was even a possibility, but right now the outlook for the Switch version is still unclear at this moment in time. The Japan team, they wanted to release Dragon Quest a XI and bring it overseas as soon as possible for our fans overseas, which is why they proceeded with the PS4 [and] Steam version[s] this time.”

It is quite a terribly shame that Dragon Quest XI is still not on the Switch yet, and would not be for quite some time to come. Hopefully, the development team will see great progress in the coming months. You can read the full article from GameSpot here.
