During former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime’s lecture at Cornell, the business leader was asked about his thoughts on the Blizzard Hong Kong situation.
For those who are unaware, Blizzard Hong Kong went under fire after the company rescinded a player’s prize money for his political views and laid off two Taiwanese eSports commentators. Many players condemned Blizzard for “kowtowing to China” and Blizzard Activision had to even cancel their Overwatch Switch launch event at Nintendo NY.
While Reggie did not condemn mainland China at his lecture as he thinks it’s a completely different market, he did praise customers who responded to the situation by boycotting Blizzard Activision and urging the company to return the rescinded prize money to the player from Hong Kong.
Reggie also believes what led to the fiasco wasn’t because of the integrity of the leadership at Blizzard Activision, but he still believes the company screwed up with the mess.
