Still waiting for Nintendo to release a Game Boy Classic Edition? You will find better hopes with Hyperkin as they showed off their working Ultra Game Boy to the CES crowd.
The Ultra Game Boy aims to bring what you know and loved as a kid and repackage with modern technology. On top of playing Game Boy Games, they’ve gutted in a backlit LCD display, stereo speakers, and a rechargeable battery that can be charged through USB-C, the same cable as the Switch (although battery life is only 6 hours compared to the ten to twenty hours of the dot matrix original. The Ultra Game Boy is also packaged in this beautiful aluminium finish to match modern devices.
No word on when and exactly and how much the Ultra Game Boy is going to go but Hyperkin hopes to be able to launch the product late this summer at a price of below $100. Until then, you will just have to settle for the AA battery munchers.
