This article was totally unnecessary. People has been collecting Gold Points since the worldwide launch of My Nintendo in March 2016.
Actually, your gold coins are valid until the end of that month. So all gold points from Switch related things bought in March last year are valid until March 31st this year.
If there are coins that expire this month they're from Wii U or 3DS purchases.
To be more clear, this is about physical games, and concerns the deadline of registering those games to receive coins. It's not about the expiration date of those coins themselves.
So, if you bought a physical game, you can register it to receive gold coins, but only up to a year from when those games have been released. Once you received those coins, they will not expire for another 12 months from the point you received them.
Note that that means that it doesn't matter when you bought those games, registration for gold coins is only possible up to 12 months after the game's release.
I think it's important to let people know about this properly, as the current way this article is written it says the coins will expire. But in truth, the chance to RECEIVE coins for your purchase of these games will expire. And more importantly this will be the case for ALL physical copies.
So people should make sure they redeemed the coins for those games, rather than spend the coins they received for them.
