Over the past few months, the internet as been abuzz with rumors and speculation about the potential successor to the Nintendo Switch, with many believing it could arrive arrive as early as next year.
This latest rumor comes via a leaker going by Nash Weedle. 3 years ago, this leaker claimed to have heard about a new 2D Metroid game being in the works, speculating that it could be the mythical Metroid Dread. This prediction would later come true in 2021 when Metroid Dread did indeed release on Switch, which lends this leaker some credibility.
Nash_Weedle’s latest claim is that a dev kit for the “Switch 2” has been sent out, landing in the hands of a Spanish development studio. Nash_Weedle goes on to speculate that this means a full reveal of the console is imminent.
Translation Via ResetEra:
“The Switch 2 development kit has arrived in Spain.
The fact that a Spanish studio already has the kit, given Nintendo’s secrecy policy, is a boost in their relations and indicates that we are in the last stages before the console’s presentation.”
What makes this leak a bit more intriguing is that MecurySteam, the developers of Metroid Dread, happen to be based in Spain. It is possible that the Spanish studio that Nash_Weedle mentions is MecurySteam, and this would be in line with how the leaker accurately shared information about their Metroid Dread project ahead of its official announcement.
Of course, as with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
