A few months back, Nintendo officially announced that a successor to the Nintendo Switch was in the works, with more details set to be announced sometime this fiscal year.
Although some industry insiders suggested the company was aiming for a March 2025 launch window, it seems not everyone is as optimistic. Speaking during the publication’s latest podcast, GamesIndustry.biz head Chris Dring claimed that many developers do not believe that the Switch’s successor will launch during the current fiscal year, with the earliest possible month being April or May 2025.
“No developer that I have spoken to expects it to be launching in the financial year. In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the financial year.
A bunch of people I spoke to hope it’s out in April – May 2025, that it’s out still early next year not late–I don’t know if any of us wants a late launch for Switch 2 because A) we all want the new Nintendo console and everyone’s excited for it, and B) we don’t want that crunch of like GTA 6 and Switch on top of each other.”
Despite these hopes, its ultimately up to Nintendo to decide the timing of the reveal and launch of the Switch’s successor. With each passing month, it seems more and more likely that we might not get any updates until the the end of the year or later. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
