[Update] Rumor: Fans Speculate Mysterious House In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Hints At New Villagers

[UPDATE]: Nintendo has released an official statement clarifying that the mysterious house seen in the screenshots was an error. More details can be found here.

Recently, Nintendo announced a new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which features the return of a number of past events for the game along with several new items and additions.

Within the promotional material for the new update, one particular screenshot has led fans to speculate that new villagers may also be on the way. The screenshot in question features several of the new seasonal items that will be added with the update, along with an unassuming house in the background.

Although the design of the house implies that it belongs to one of the game’s many villagers, fans have noticed that this specific layout does not match any of the 497 villager houses currently featured in the game. This has in turn led fans to speculate that this house belongs to a brand new villager that has yet to be added to the game. Supporting this theory is the fact that this would not be the first time new villagers are added to Animal Crossing post-launch, such as New Leaf‘s Welcome Amiibo update.

That said, other fans are a bit more skeptical, pointing out that it could be a “beta house” that was never planned to be used in the actual game, or perhaps hinting at a more tame feature like being able to customize villager houses. Whatever the case, we will be sure to report back with more details should they become available.
