Next week, Nintendo will be hosting its Switch 2 Direct presentation, finally lifting the lid on the long awaited successor to the Switch.
Ahead of this presentation, rumors have been swirling about the console’s release date and pre-order date. The latest rumor comes via Insider Gaming, who claim to have obtained internal emails and documents from a “large US retailer”.
These documents allegedly say that the Switch 2 will release in June 2025, corroborating previous rumors about the release date. As for pre-orders, they are said to go live on April 9th 2025, with the retailer planning a countdown clock to start from the April 2nd direct. The documents also say that the retailer expects pre-orders to be sold out within the day, due to limited unit allocation from Nintendo.
Insider Gaming’s report comes after a Best Buy Canada posted a now deleted blog post saying they would open their own pre-orders on the same day as the Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd. It is unclear which of the two dates is more accurate.
As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take this with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more when the Switch 2 Direct airs on April 2nd.
