Rumor: Nintendo Controller Patent May Hint At Ring Fit Adventure Sequel

A new patent has surfaced online that could hint at a successor to Ring Fit Adventure.

As highlighted by Nintendo Patents Watch, the company recently filed a patent for a “accessories for video game controllers” design in EU. As with many such patents, the images contained within are to be kept secret for the next 30 months. However, Nintendo Patents Watch believes that the patent is likely for a special type of controller in-line with the Ring-Con for the following reasons:

• The designer on record is Fumiyoshi Suetake, who designed the Alarmo and Ring-Con.
• Nintendo extended the legal protection for Ring Fit Adventure in the US in 2023 and Japan in 2024.
• Switch assembler Foxconn Technology Co.  disclosed its “force sensing technology” developed for a gaming customer to create “diverse new gaming accessories”, with a crudely drawn Ring-Con and two force sensors.

On 2025-05-23 Nintendo registered an “accessories for video game controllers” design in EU. Its images, however, are held secret (“deferred”) for up to 30 months. This indicates that it’s a brand new unannounced product.

Fumiyoshi Suetake is the designer on record. His most recent registered designs were Alarmo and Ring-Con. He’s also the designer of an unreleased “training instrument” filed in 2015.

Nintendo has included fitness and sports themed titles in each major console release since the Wii, it is not unreasonable to expect another in the early years of the Switch 2’s lifespan. Ring Fit Adventure was also one of Nintendo’s breakout hits, and a follow-up on the Switch 2 seems like a no-brainer.
