Nintendo has reportedly suffered another major data leak, this time related to its latest console the Switch.
According to various sources such as Nintendo historian Forest Of Illusion, this leak contains many details related to the Switch’s development, including early prototypes and old security documents. This same leak also allegedly contains details about how Nintendo was planning to hire a hacker from the 3DS homebrew scene into the company.
You can read a brief summary of the key details below:
About The Switch
- Leak contains “Switch private keys and many documents”, although the private keys are not related to the final device.
- One document contains images of a Switch prototype from 2014, that looks similar to one used in a hoax from that period.
- Documents detailing an early prototype for Nintendo Switch indicate that the console was to be far less powerful than the final design, with either one or two screens capped at 480p resolution.
- This early prototype was much closer to the Nintendo 3DS in design, with support for 3D video and backwards compatibility, as well as Streetpass, Spotpass and Pedometer features.
- The device would be able to broadcast video through Miracast, meaning that, potentially, this concept would be for a portable console that does NOT dock into a TV, instead displaying video to a TV wirelessly, while still having the unit usable, similar to the WiiU Gamepad.
About The 3DS
- Nintendo was looking into hiring a 3DS hacker from the homebrew scene to join the company.
- Nintendo kept very detailed data about the 3DS hacker in question, and had a very detailed PR plan prepared in case the public found out about it.
- Nintendo also had extensive plans for how to convince the hacker to join the company, including one to fly him into Japan to meet their engineers.
- Other photos leaked prototype 3DS cartridge, a look at the Gyro-Tester, and more.
