For the past few months, rumors have been circulating about a potential successor to the Nintendo Switch, which many speculate could release as early as next year.
Now, a new batch of rumors have surfaced courtesy of VGC, who reportedly spoke with several sources ” with knowledge of Nintendo’s next-gen console plans”. According to these sources, Nintendo is targeting the second half of 2024 to release its next console, which will have the following attributes:
- Development kits have already been sent to “key partner studios”
- The console will have a portable mode, just like the Nintendo Switch
- Could launch with an LCD screen instead of an OLED screen to lower costs, which could balance out the higher amount of storage required for higher fidelity games.
- Will support physical games via a cartridge slot, same as the Nintendo Switch
- Release timing would ensure there is enough stock to avoid the manufacturing shortages previously faced by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. We will be sure to report back once we hear more in the future.
