Last year, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo Co, Ltd (Japan) released Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green Editions of Nintendo 2DS hardware, which came in a special translucent design.
The same thing could be happening again this year with Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver, which are getting Virtual Console releases on Nintendo 3DS in September.
German retailer Saturn has listed pre-orders for “Pokemon Gold Edition” and “Pokemon Silver Edition” for Nintendo 3DS, priced at 70 Euros each. This could very well be special Nintendo 2DS hardware, given that a Nintendo 2DS with a copy of Mario Kart 7 retails for 99 Euros. It’s unlikely to be a physical release for the Virtual Console games, as those are priced less than 10 Euros.
