Rumor: Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Image Leaked

A screenshot of what is claimed to be an official image representing Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary has been circulating online.

Users who shared the image claimed to have briefly spotted it on the official Nintendo Japanese website and an official Super Mario newsletter for customers living in North America. The image can be found below:

There is some skepticism that the image is real. For instance, the logo for the anniversary includes the words “Super Mario Brothers” in Japanese katakana characters. It’s worth noting that Nintendo prefers to use the the game’s English title, “Super Mario Bros.”, for its official Japanese marketing materials and logos. The absence of the English wording puts the authenticity of this image into doubt.
