Ahead of the game’s official launch next week, a list of voice actors for Super Mario Bros. Wonder has reportedly leaked online.
The rumored leak reportedly originated on 4chan, and was seemingly datamined from the demo build of the game. It was accompanied by screenshots of never-before-seen levels, which added to its supposed legitimacy. The list subsequently saw significant discussion on Famiboards, with users trying to discover one thing: Who is the new voice of Mario. As many of you know, Charles Martinet recently stepped down from voicing Mario in the games, with Nintendo stating that the plumber’s new voice actor would be revealed with the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
By process of elimination, removing returning voice actors, foreign dub actors, and female actors, the users of Famiboards narrowed it down to either Kevin Afghani or Mick Wingert as the likely Mario candidates. Initially, they were convinced that Mick Wingert was the new voice of Mario, as Kevin Afghani’s vocal reel sounded similar to Wonder’s Talking Flowers, presumably excluding Afghani from the Mario role.
However, in a statement provided to IGN, Wingert’s Agent quickly shot down the claim. The statement read that Wingert would not be able to confirm or deny his involvement in the game, only that he was not voicing Mario. This statement has seemingly thrown fans back to square one in terms of determining Mario’s voice actor.
That said, all of this discussion was made assuming that the leaked list was true in the first place, which, given its origin from 4chan, should be taken with a grain of salt. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
