Some new rumors have surfaced about the successor to the Nintendo Switch, which Nintendo is expected to fully reveal before March 2025.
This latest rumor comes via Youtuber SuperMetalDave64, who found a job listing at Nintendo seeking a “Electro-Mechanical Engineer” to work at their home office in Redmond Washington. One of the stated requirements is “Experience with high speed signaling and power delivery on PCB designs that contain elements such as PCIE, DDR4, MIPI, SD/SD Express”.
SuperMetalDave64 believes that this suggests that Nintendo is looking into optimizing the Switch 2’s performance using the Samsung SD Express microSD Card. This is a new line of microSD cards being developed by Samsung, capable of transfer speeds up to 800MB per second. By comparison, the best possible microSD card for the current Switch has a max transfer speed of 150MB per second. The Switch 2 being able to support the SD Express microSD card would be a great boon to the console’s ability to run modern games.
As with all reports of this nature, we caution readers to take this info with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
