In the latest Weekly Famitsu interview with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Masahiro Sakurai, Sakurai shared some thoughts on the future of the series.
First, Sakurai mentioned he wasn’t sure whether he’d be able to work on the Super Smash Bros. series forever, but if the order comes from Nintendo, he will prioritize it for them, but he isn’t sure whether he’d receive the call to make another game.
When asked whether he’s thinking about the sequel to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sakurai responded that he doesn’t want to think about it for now, and perhaps it’d come in 10 years. He also said having every single fighter in history in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a miracle and would probably happen only one time.
Before the interview ended, Sakurai told Famitsu that there’s zero guarantee there would be another Super Smash Bros. after Ultimate, as a Smash Bros. game requires the cooperation of many companies and Ultimate is a game that’s not just a simple sequel.
