Sakurai: Kirby Survived In Smash Bros. Ultimate World Of Light Not Because I Created Him

In the opening movie of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light, Kirby was the sole survivor of Galeem’s death beams, leading some to speculate that Sakurai saved Kirby just because he created him.

In the latest Sakurai column translated by Source Gaming, it turns out that there’s no such favoritism. Sakurai revealed Kirby was chosen from a game design perspective and the process of elimination. The development team also needed a character with a vehicle that could defy the laws of physics to explain how they escaped. Thus that’s how Kirby was chosen.

Another reason why Kirby was chosen was because he is an easy to use character for beginners, so picking Bayonetta or Palutena, the two other contenders, wouldn’t make sense as they required some skill to master.
