Asides from Sakurai’s comments on his health and diet in a column in Weekly Famitsu, the topic of sequels was brought up to him by readers.
Translated by NOKOLO, Sakurai was asked if he thought Chrono Trigger needed a sequel. Sakurai replied that he sees the Playstation classic Chrono Cross as the sequel to Chrono Trigger while also noting that it was an interesting perspective to think about the original SNES game without a sequel.
The sequel talk continued with a reader asking Sakurai whether he would ever make a sequel to the Gamecube racing game Kirby Air Ride.
“Many great games have sequels, and knowing when to release sequels takes some know-how regarding games’ maturities. It’s difficult to deliver on the images that people have in mind for sequels,” Sakurai commented.
