SEGA And Netflix Working On Crazy Taxi Movie, New Sonic Cartoon, And More Adaptations

SEGA and Netflix have announced they are working on more game adaptations for the streaming platform.

According to Variety, three SEGA adaptation projects are currently in the works at Netflix: A Crazy Taxi live-action movie, a new Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon, as well as a film adapting Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming prequel game to Like A Dragon. The Crazy Taxi film will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote the 2005 reboot of The Naked Gun. It will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Sega’s Toru Nakahara, who produced the Sonic the Hedgehog Live-Action films. Nakahara described all three upcoming adaptations as follows:

“Expect something cute yet cool for ‘Sonic,’ hilariously crazy for ‘Crazy Taxi’ and a badass action drama for ‘Stranger Than Heaven,’ because we’ve got some amazing creative ideas lined up and we are just getting started. The whole team is absolutely thrilled!”

Shuji Utsumi, president and COO of Sega, also had this to say about the partnership with Netflix:

“We’ve watched Netflix take on stories across every kind of format and treat each one with real craft, and seeing that same dedication applied to ‘Sonic,’ ‘Crazy Taxi’ and ‘Stranger Than Heaven’ is something we at Sega are incredibly proud to be a part of. The fandoms of these games deserve storytelling that honors what makes each title special, and we know Netflix shares that commitment. This is just the start of what these titles can become.”
