Sonic Team Says New Sonic The Hedgehog Game With “Unprecedented Gameplay” In The Works

Its been a few years since the release of the last brand new mainline Sonic The Hedgehog game, and fans are eagerly awaiting what’s next for the blue blur.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka confirmed that the next Sonic game is well in the works at SEGA, promising that “there’s still plenty of room for the series to evolve”, and that they aim to create something with “unprecedented gameplay” that builds upon Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Colors.

4Gamer: So, taking into account the history of the series, could you tell us your outlook on how Sonic might evolve in the future?

Iizuka: I can’t go into specifics about the new game currently under development, but I’m confident that there’s still plenty of room for the series to evolve. The introduction of Color Power in “Sonic Colors” significantly changed the way the series is played, and I believe there’s still more to come in the systemic evolution pioneered by “Sonic Frontier.” We’ll be creating unprecedented gameplay through various approaches, from characters and story to game systems, so please look forward to it.
