Following requests from Nintendo last week, Sony had begun to crack down on various Super Mario projects in Dreams – a PS4 sandbox game where players can create their own games or virtual experiences. Well, it looks like the Nintendo ban-hammer is coming down even harder than before this week.
Sony has recently confirmed that it will be moderating and removing a wider array of Nintendo-related IP from various Dreams projects moving forward. This was communicated in a new statement to GamesIndustry.biz on the matter:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment is notifying the affected users that an IP Infringement Notice has been received from Nintendo and that the content will be removed. We cannot comment on volume of content to be removed, this is done on an individual case by case basis.”
The vague wording of the statement above makes it unclear which user-created projects will be affected by this new mandate. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
