Sony Says “Never Underestimate Nintendo” And That The Industry Is Better Off Because Of Nintendo’s Efforts

It looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment Chairman Shawn Layden still has not run out of praise for Nintendo.

At this year’s DICE Summit, the executive managed to sneak in some words of respect for his rival company, despite focusing on PlayStation matters. Given that the theme of the 2019 Summit was ‘trailblazers’, Layden highlighted Nintendo’s recent success:

“The best-selling console of 2018 in the U.S. was…the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo took a massive risk when they brought [the Switch] to the market. People thought Nintendo might one day be out of the hardware business. People would say things like ‘kids play games on mobile phones and tablets, dedicated portable gaming is dead and gone.’ But as I’ve said before: never underestimate Nintendo… All of us are better for their efforts.”
