Square Enix Explains Octopath Traveler’s HD-2D Mixed Art-Style
Octopath Traveler is coming out later this July, and Nintendo Switch players have already got a first-hand feel of the game’s HD-2D art style with the game’s demo last year.
Explaining the game’s unique HD-2D art style, Octopath Traveler producer Masashi Takahashi talked about how the team wanted to resonate with players who played RPGs during the 8 and 16 bit era, yet at the same time make the game look great and high quality
“We tried different things, and originally we did try to put everything in pixel-style art,” says producer Masashi Takahashi. “But at the end of the day, compared to what we were thinking of, it felt fake and low-quality.”
