As reported previously, visitors to the Super Nintendo World park at Universal Studios Japan can enjoy various rides based on Mario and friends – with one such ride themed after the lovable Yoshi. While this Yoshi ride is one of the calmer attractions at the site, things got a little heated for park staff earlier this week.
According to Japanese news agency FNN, the park’s maintenance crew had discovered smoke and fire emerging from a compartment within one of the attraction’s indoor sections on Tuesday night (23 November 2021). Thankfully this only took place near midnight when there were no more park visitors, and Japan’s 119 emergency fire service was soon called in to handle the incident.
No injuries were reported. Following this, the park was closed for the whole of Wednesday (24 November 2021) to investigate the issue. The park has since re-opened to visitors today in Japan (25 November 2021).
With any luck, this kind of incident won’t repeat itself at the park. We’ll report back if we hear more in the future.
